US Embassy Visit

Amanda and I journeyed to the US Embassy for the first time! We decided to walk from the Central Metro station there, and it only looked like it was about a 20 minute walk and behind the Cathedral. We wove our way between different Government buildings and had to cross over highway portions. It probably would have been a lot smaller to just take an uber.

As we got close, there were signs all over directing to the other Embassies.

We may have been smiles, but man were we sweating in the sun!

We finally reached the building, but we went to the wrong side of the building. We tried to find the entrance and the guard at the consulate told us to go to the service door. It took a while of calling people, but we found our way up to the offices by RELO.

We had meetings with the cultural affairs and RELO team, and bounced between officers for an hour of two. Our RELO contact also brought us into the storage unit and gave us pedagogical materials to use at our university! There were so many that we had a backpack and two boxes filled.

We stopped by the commissary and my jaw dropped looking at some of the foods that I am missing. Such saudades for syrup, pancakes, liquid coffee creamer, cookies, candies....

Overall, it was a really successful appointed and we gained some contacts for the Access program, whom I can't wait to coordinate and volunteer with.
