Getting to Chapada dos Veadeiros and Vale da Lua

Lara and I woke up, got ready, and headed out to Chapada dos V. It was about a 3 hour drive. We took some wrong turns getting out of the city and got very flustered. It was also a very weird stick shift in the Chevy. We eventually got to a long strip of 150 kilometers on a single road. It made me think of what I think the Savannah would be like, with flat plains and grassy stretches.

We arrived in town, and it’s definitely less built up than I had imagined, and the town roads were all dirt and rough. There were several supermarkets and lanchonetes around Alto Paraiso. We ate lunch at this small Zu's Bistro restaurant that we found online, and it ended up being a tripadvisor winner and the plate of chicken gnocchi I had was amazing.

Afterwards, we drove to Vale da Lua, and survived the unpaved 13 km drive stretch up and down hills. It was about 20 reais to get in, and worth it. It was less than a km hike to the rock formation and swimming pools. We swam into a portion by a waterfall. The water was Jersey water kinda cold, and really refreshing. We explored the rock formations carved out by the water.

We went into Sao Jorge, the neighboring city, but there is a huge shamon event going on. It was insanely busy, and the driving through was awful. So much credit to Lara. We stopped by some events were they talked about chakras and sold jewelry and oils. We stopped in the Preguica Galeria, and I found this amazing Brasilia magnet and a postcard.

We headed back to Alto Paraiso, and saw a harvest moon on the way! Back in town, we went food shopping. We then went to find the airbnb, which was a mess. The streets are definitely not label, and one side of the street was quadra 13 and the other side quadra 10. We couldn’t find the building, then we finally did, and we couldn’t find the keys. We had to go in through the gate and onto the property to find them! Finally, we got into the building, but then there was absolutely no cell service and no wifi, and we traveled back into town for data to ask for the wifi. All said and done, an hour later we were in the chalet with dinner cooking, wifi on, music playing, and wine in hands.
