Tim Burton Artwork Exhibition at CCBB

Renan and I went to the Tim Burton art exhibit at CCBB, our second adventure to CCBB. It was the second weekend open and the line for it was enormous. We wait 45 minutes for the first exhibit and 30 minutes for the second. It was well worth the wait. I had seen one of his exhibitions at the MOMA before, but this one utilized the space really well and was more than just displays of work- it occupied the space and felt like another world.
There was: a section showing the animals he created and a magnet wall to move around the body parts and create own monster or mimic his. One spot you needed polarizing glasses that you couldn’t see the images without the glasses, and they appeared so clearly when you had them on. Similar, there was a 3D portion with monster images that came to life with the glasses, and seemed to move as you circled the images. One of the introduction rooms had clothes hanging down and projections of his sketches. The following room had wind up flip books of moving sketches, projected images, and drawings. There was a movie about Oyster boy, which was very twisted in which parents give birth to a son part oyster and the parents aren’t able to have sex or something and the doctor recommends eating the son, so they do, and it ends with them hoping for a daughter. Twisted. There was a cool VR room were you explored a set of doors and the moving sketches inside of them. I was really surprised by the two rooms with the periscope like objects that you looked into and moved around to focus on and zoom in on sketches. There was a room with fake flowers and hanging sketches, but also wheels that pointed to different stories and whether they were: love, horror, or something else. There was a weird part of walking through a hallway of mirror and life sized sketches.
Throughout the entire exhibit you weren't allowed to take photos, which is unfortunate because I wish that I could show the incredible depth and amazing detail of his work, but also good because it focused me to be solely present in the moment. We did snap some photos outside of the event though! This is one of my favorite art exhibitions I have ever been to. We explored it for about 2-3 hours, and I never once felt bored between the various mediums and pieces of art.
